Charcoal Shaker Kitchen with a Long Island in Atlanta

A kitchen in Atlanta, Georgia, built around charcoal shaker cabinets: a wall of full-height pantry cabinets around the refrigerator, a coffee station behind pocket doors, a built-in microwave in the tall cabinet run, and a long island with bar seating under three pendant lights. Like every photograph on our projects page, these were taken on the job, not styled.

The island

The island runs most of the length of the room, with bar seating along one side and three pendants above it. Charcoal base cabinets under a white countertop carry the same shaker door as the rest of the kitchen, so the island reads as part of one design rather than a separate piece of furniture.

The pantry wall and coffee station

Full-height charcoal cabinets frame the refrigerator. In the middle of the run, pocket doors open and slide back into the cabinet to reveal a coffee station on its own counter, so the machines stay out of sight when the doors are closed and fully usable when they are open. A second pocket-door cabinet works the same way as a pantry.

Tall cabinets and the microwave

Another tall cabinet section takes a built-in microwave at a comfortable height, with drawers below it.
