Escada is Rest Cabinetry's contemporary range: sleek, high-gloss fronts with no frame detail to interrupt the surface. A gloss door behaves differently from a painted one - it reflects the room, so a small or north-facing Atlanta kitchen reads brighter and larger than its floor area suggests. It is the collection people choose when they want the cabinetry to recede and the countertop, the backsplash or the view to do the talking.
Escada comes in five finishes - White, Dove, Midnight Blue, Vintage Wood and Honey Maple - covering the two ends of the contemporary spectrum, from an almost invisible white through a deep saturated blue to two wood tones for people who want warmth without traditional detail. Behind those five finishes sit more than 1,500 cabinet sizes.
The collection is unusually complete for a modern range. Alongside close to 500 wall sizes and nearly 300 base sizes there are vanity units, tall cabinets, mouldings and accessories, fillers, panels and sample doors, and a dedicated run of wall glass door cabinets - useful in a gloss kitchen, where an unbroken bank of reflective doors can feel heavy without a glass break. Note that glass inserts for those units are supplied separately.
Gloss shows fingerprints more readily than a matt or painted finish, which is worth planning around rather than discovering later: handleless or edge-pull details, and a darker finish on the base run, both help. In return, gloss wipes clean in a single pass and does not hold cooking grease in a grain the way an open-pore wood finish can.
High-gloss fronts are the part of a kitchen most worth being careful with, and ready-to-assemble packing helps — doors and panels travel wrapped and flat rather than hanging on an assembled cabinet box. Inspect everything on arrival, before anything is opened or built, because that is the point at which a transit mark can still be dealt with. Once a gloss door has been assembled or installed it is a fitted door, and return terms that cover unopened RTA cartons no longer reach it.
