Cabinet Installation in Atlanta

A kitchen is only as square as the day it was fitted. Cabinets arrive true; walls, floors and ceilings are not, and the whole skill of installation is taking up the difference so that a straight run of boxes looks like it belongs to a room that is not straight.

What installation actually involves

The order it happens in matters more than the speed. The high point of the floor is found first, because every base cabinet is levelled to that rather than to the floor under it. Then the wall cabinets go up - hung from a ledger, on the studs, not on drywall anchors. Then the base run, screwed together into one rigid line before it is fixed to the wall.

After that comes the part that separates a fitted kitchen from an installed one: fillers scribed to the actual line of the wall, finished end panels on every exposed side, and a toe kick that runs continuously and matches the doors. Then doors and drawer fronts are aligned - hinges adjust in three directions, and every door on a run should close on its own from a few inches open.

What has to be true before we arrive

Installation cannot start on a room that is not ready, and the two things that stop a job are always the same.

The floor. The finished floor goes down first in almost every case, so the toe kick sits on it and a later floor change does not trap the run. If a new floor is going in afterwards, its exact thickness has to be known and allowed for before the cabinets are ordered.

Rough-in. Plumbing and electrical have to be finished and in their final positions. An outlet that lands behind a wall cabinet, or a shut-off valve that ends up unreachable inside a sink base, is not adjustable once the run is fixed and the counter is on.

The countertop is templated after the cabinets are installed, off the boxes rather than off a drawing - which is why a counter is never ready on install day. Countertops covers that side.

Fitting it yourself

Plenty of customers fit their own. Ready-to-assemble cabinets are designed for it, and the boxes are all-plywood so they hold a fixing properly. What decides whether it goes well is not carpentry skill, it is patience with levelling and a willingness to scribe rather than force.

If you are fitting it yourself, how to measure a kitchen is the place to start, and order one spare filler and one spare molding length - they are the cheapest parts of a kitchen and the two most likely to be cut wrong on site.

Cost

What it costs. Installation and assembly are charged for, and quoted per job rather than off a price list - the number depends on the size of the run, how much of it is custom, and what the room needs before the cabinets go in. Call (470) 564-9496 or use the contact page with your layout and we will quote it.

Frequently asked questions

Do you install the cabinets you sell?

Yes. Installation is available and it is charged for, quoted per job.

How much does cabinet installation cost?

It is quoted per job rather than from a price list, because the number depends on the size of the run, how much of it is custom and what the room needs first. Call (470) 564-9496 with your layout.

Does the floor go in before or after the cabinets?

Before, in almost every case. The toe kick then sits on the finished floor, and a later floor change cannot trap the run. If the floor comes after, its exact thickness has to be known before the cabinets are ordered.

Can I install ready-to-assemble cabinets myself?

Yes - they are built for it, and the all-plywood boxes hold fixings well. The work that matters is levelling and scribing rather than carpentry.

When is the countertop measured?

After the cabinets are installed. It is templated off the fitted boxes, not off a drawing, so it always follows the installation rather than arriving with it.
