The undertone test. Put a cabinet door sample flat on the floor, in the actual room, at the time of day you use the kitchen most. If the two look like they belong to different houses, that is the answer - and it costs nothing to find out now instead of on install day.
Two warms that are not the same warm. A yellow-toned oak floor under a cream cabinet reads as a mistake, not as coordination. Either commit to one warm family or go clearly cool against it.
Grey against grey. The most common failure in current kitchens. Grey swings warm or cool depending on what surrounds it, so two greys chosen separately will almost never match - one will look faintly purple or green beside the other. If both the floor and the cabinets are grey, they need to be chosen together, in the room.
Too much movement. A heavily veined countertop over a strongly grained cabinet fights for the same attention. One of the three surfaces should be quiet. Which one is a taste decision; that one of them must be is not.
