Flat Panel and Slab Cabinets in Atlanta

A flat panel door is one surface and nothing else. No frame, no shadow line, no profile to catch dust - which is simultaneously the whole appeal and the whole difficulty, because a door with no detail has nowhere to hide a bad edge.

Slab, thin-profile and handleless are three different doors

Slab is the plain version: one flat face, edge to edge. It reads as a continuous plane along a run, and it is the door that makes a small kitchen look larger because the eye finds nothing to stop on.

Thin-profile keeps a very narrow frame around the panel - just enough of a line to give the door structure without turning it into a shaker. The Slim collection is this, in ten finishes.

Handleless removes the hardware as well, with the door edge itself forming the grip. The European collection covers that - matt and gloss, no pulls at all.

What flat panel asks of the installation

A flat run is unforgiving of a gap. On a shaker door the eye reads the frame lines and a slightly uneven reveal disappears into them; on a slab run every gap between doors is a straight line the length of the kitchen, and any variation in it is visible from across the room.

That makes two things matter more than usual: hinges adjusted properly after the house settles, and fillers scribed to the actual wall rather than forced. Installation is available for a fee if that is not work you want to take on.

Where flat panel is the right answer

A modern room, a small room, or any kitchen where the counter or the backsplash is doing the visual work and the cabinets should stay quiet. It is also the easiest door to keep clean, because there is no frame edge for grease to collect in - which matters most beside the range.

Where it is the wrong answer: a traditional house with panelled interior doors and deep trim. A slab kitchen in that room reads as a different building. Raised panel is the counterpart.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between slab and flat panel?

In practice they mean the same door - one flat face with no raised centre. "Thin-profile" keeps a very narrow frame around it, which is what the Slim collection is.

Are flat panel cabinets easier to clean?

Yes. There is no frame edge for grease and dust to collect in, which shows most beside the range and around handles.

Do handleless cabinets exist in stock?

Yes - the European collection is handleless, with the door edge forming the grip, in matt and gloss finishes.

Is flat panel cheaper than shaker?

It depends on the collection rather than the profile. Pricing opens once you register and log in, and the useful exercise is to price the same layout in two collections.

Do you deliver across metro Atlanta?

Yes - 7 to 10 business days, or same-day collection in Norcross. Service areas lists every city.
