Black shaker is the highest-contrast door in the range and the one that most rewards being used in one place rather than everywhere. The frame shadow that gives a white shaker its depth does the opposite here - on black it disappears, and the door reads as one solid mass.
Black shaker is at its best on an island, a run of tall cabinets, or the base cabinets under a pale perimeter. That gives the contrast without surrendering the light, and it gives the eye somewhere to stop.
A fully black kitchen needs daylight from more than one direction and a pale counter or backsplash, or the room reads as a single dark block. Charcoal is the safer version of the same idea - almost the same weight, with enough grey left in it to read softer in a room with one window.
Marks. Dark finishes show grease and fingerprints sooner than a mid-tone, and they show them around the handles and beside the range first. It is worth deciding where the handles sit rather than discovering it.
Light. A black cabinet returns almost no light to the counter, so under-cabinet lighting matters more here than with any other finish - and it has to be wired before the run goes on the wall.

Charcoal carries almost the same weight with some grey left in it, which reads softer in a room with limited daylight. True black is the stronger statement and the less forgiving one.
Brass and bronze give warmth and visible contrast; matt black disappears into the door, which is deliberate but leaves the room without jewellery.
